New Things That happen

Again it has been a while since I posted anything. I guess I'm just not good at keeping up with any sort of publication.
Anyway, come September, I'll be starting as the new fourth grade English teacher as well as the schools new art teacher.
Teaching is something that I've sort of done in one way or another, whether by showing my parents how to do something on the computer, by explaining to someone how or why certain things happen, or simply by explaining to a person why they're wrong.

I'm looking forward to meeting my students and hoping for the best.

It's been a while. And now, I'm in Bogotá.

More to come.

So. Much. More.

Bike Painting Project

So this is a project i recently embarked on and well, finished. This post is also a test to see if the android blogger app is any good.

So far so good... the post below was published using the app. Also, just to clarify, the red bike is the before picture. The green one is the after.

Almost One Year Ago

I was working on a painting of some girl who some of you may know.

Needless to say I didn't finish this piece ( as with many others).

Almost a year later I have done some things. One of these is restore a bicycle for a wonderful girl.

This project was documented, though not very thoroughly, but documented nonetheless.

I will post pictures like right now.

Also, I have been working on some furniture pieces made form reclaimed Ikea pieces and some additional lumber which was unfortunately purchased. Pictures for these will have to wait however.

In the mean time, enjoy the bicycle project's before and after photos.

Newish Thing

This is one of the last pieces I've been working on.
It's still in progress, but I figured I should update and put some art up here instead of just ideas.

Art and the lack thereof

It's been a while since I've posted anything.
I suppose this is because it's been a while since I've made anything.
I have no excuse for it though. I have had the time and I have had the energy. I just chose to do something else.
I can't promise I'll post anything soon. But I can promise that I will have lots of ideas of stuff that I will want to make.
This is what this post is about. Another the ideas I've had. Some will be old ideas, some will be new. Others will be one I have though about while writing this.
Here we go.

The memory thing is still an idea that I want to develop. The landscape and buildings idea is the more plausible one because it is not only easily conceived, but it carries the potential to be the most profitable. People like small landscapes. And they are relatively quick to produce. They also serve as excellent practice in color and agility.
Another is the ink wash idea. Which ties in directly with the previous one.
There is also the "people at work" idea. A series of portraits mostly from memory, of the people o encounter at work. You won't beloved the kind of characters that come along this place.
There is also the furniture idea. I've wanted to make furniture. With the main project being a couch. Designing and building it would be fun... I think. But it's always been in the back of my head.
Then there is the "document people of the street" idea. This one is somewhat riskier, considering the kind of people I want to interview. Mainly drug addicts. I think it would make for fascinating stories, which could be placed in a sort of handmade book and typewritten in an old typewriter (redundancies are redundant...and fun).
Also, the "make a movie" with friends idea. This one would be more of a messing-around kinda thing. Where me and a couple friends just go around and shoot video. Of anything. For fun. I guess one could argue that this isn't particularly artistic, but with a title like 'things that happen' I think it could get a few views on The tube of You.
I have also thought about just taking pictures of the city. I suppose this ties into the landscape idea. With the exception that this is photography, which happens to be the specialty of a few friends of mine, but I wanna do it. Cause I can. So there.
And lastly... (Well, not lastly since I will continue to have ideas) I want to make a comic about myself. I feel like I have to do at least one page of an autobiographical comic to be a real art school grad. I think I have enough interesting (to me at least) stories to make a couple panels. Also, I was inspired by Scott Pilgrim. Yay.

Well, there you have it. The potential for a few moths, even years of work.

And all I have to do, is do it...

January 1965

New piece in progress.
This is the first one of a series that deals with memory, its loss and degeneration.
I've yet to figure out how much i will work on this particular panel. I know it needs a bit more work, but not too much.

[EDIT]
I worked on it a bit more. Also made the colors a bit more faithful to the actual piece. I need to get a better bulb...

Heavy Rain

So on new years, I was invited to be part of a team of artists that paint on stage during the Heavy Rain Youth Conference.

It as an interesting experience.

These are the two pieces that came from being up there. They are acrylic on corrugated cardboard because sometimes you have to make due with what you have at hand, haha.

New Piece

After some time, i finally finished this.

It is a smaller piece (24"x14") and the technique is a little different as well.
Instead of using the regular acrylic and ink, I used oil. I found that the colors are more accurate to what I have in mind. This also means however, that the colors have little room to change, or be themselves (so to speak). I will continue to incorporate this method to my larger works and see where that takes me.

Works on Paper: Acrylic

One more that did not fit.

Works on Paper: Acrylic

These are some works I have made during worship at church.
They are practically sketches done in about thirty minutes or so.

They are more meditative and looser than most of the stuff i usually do.
I figured i would post them since they are very different and also haven't posted anything for a while.

Teapot and Cup

Something else i have been working on.
It's not finished, but i have been working on it for a while now. Which means I'm moving on, and possibly picking it up at a later date. Like the rest of my stuff.

New things...sort of

So I have decided to post a collection of the stuff I made in the past few weeks.
It's nothing amazing, but it's something.
So here it is.

Oh and also my camera charger.

September 29, 2009

Today nothing eventful happened.

Just a regular day, like any other. I just thought i would post something since I haven't in a while.
Anyway, I've working on some paintings. Well, I'm not sure one can call these "works" more like sketches or exercises. Well, better yet, dicking around.
I just felt I needed to put some paint down on some type of surface, so I figured I'd shellac some box chunks.
I think I'll concentrate on the color and not so much the drawing. Why? Because I can. I need to loosen up and stop concentrating on making something significant. I need to play around.
Well, that will be all. Maybe I'll post what I made. Maybe.

House On Dundas West

I finally have the opportunity to post this first painting completed in Canada.
It was a rather interesting experience having to work in a dimly lit basement from a tiny three inch screen with children constantly inquiring about what it was that I was doing and trying to touch my palette, or should I say the paint on it.

I see there are certain things about the painting that i should have given more thought to, like the bottom part where the sidewalk seems to extend forward, as well as the sides of the entire piece. I should've just left the house be. Looking back at it, it's not very complete after all...
Oh well, next time.

This piece will be the start of a series based on the architecture of various parts of the city. In addition to the Cathedral series I plan on starting, hopefully sometime this week, now that things have somewhat settled.
